A Project aimed at enhancing typical activities in the Taranto area, its traditions, fishing and mussel farming and dedicated to trade operators, citizens, freelancers and tourist guides.
As part of the FISH & C.H.I.P.S. project – funded by the 2014/2020 INTERREG V/A GREECE – ITALY Programme –, Confcommercio Taranto, the University of Foggia and the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MArTA), working in collaboration with the National Research Council’s Thalassographic Institute, the Officina Maremosso Association and the Local Action Group: Places of Myth and Ravines, have organized six workshops to disseminate knowledge and promote the valorization of the typical activities related to the fishing and the mussel farming traditions of Taranto. The workshops are designed for two distinct target audiences: (a) trade operators, citizens, freelancers and tourist guides, and (b) high school students. The workshops will offer an opportunity to exchange knowledge regarding the activities involved in mussel farming, fishing and naval carpentry and will also serve to supplement and provide qualified information about coastal and marine resources for communities, especially for younger people.
The FISH & C.H.I.P.S. project (an acronym that stands for Fisheries and Cultural Heritage, Identity and Participated Societies) is aimed at identifying, valorizing and conserving the tangible and intangible cultural assets of the coastal and marine heritage of the Adriatic and Ionian seas.
The workshops will be held from 27 September to 9 November 2019 (from 15.00 to 18.30) in the Meeting Room of the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MArTA) in Via Cavour 10, according to the following schedule:

- Friday, 27 September: Workshop – Mussel farming and mussel production techniques
- Friday, 4 October – Workshop – Fishing nets, fish traps and techniques to make them
- Friday, 11 October – Workshop – Shipbuilding between past, present and future
- Saturday, 12 October – Field workshop with guided tour
Workshops for high school students / accompanying teachers
- Friday, 18 October – Workshop – Mussel farming and mussel production techniques
- Friday, 25 October – Workshop – Shipbuilding between past, present and future
- Friday, 8 November – Workshop – Fishing nets, fish traps and techniques to make them
- Saturday, 9 November – Field workshop with guided tour
Participation in the workshops is free.
REGISTRATION TO THE WORKSHOPS
The meetings are for: citizens, professionals, tourist guides, business and trade operators, and high school students. For each workshop maximum 90 registrations will be accepted, selected based on the order of booking until full capacity is reached. To register, fill in one of the following online forms:
